The seminar will be a great opportunity to know about the latest in managing batch processes in plants to get the golden mean of throughput, flexibility, control, transparency and operational efficiency, ultimately leading to more profits for batch operations. Conducted by respected industry professionals, this would be a unique platform to share knowledge, find out about industry best practices and network with like minded professionals.
Why this seminar?
Traditionally, Instrumentation and Control Systems development had been focused on the continuous process industries, such as Oil and Gas, Petroleum Refining, Fertilizer manufacturing, Chemicals, Power Generation and so on. Hence today there is plenty of knowledge and expertise in the Instrumentation and Controls related to these applications.
However compared to the above sectors, industries like Pharmaceuticals, Paints, Agrochemicals, specialty chemicals, lubricants, oil additives, dairy and food, etc have a large number of processes that operate in a “batch” mode, not a continuous mode. The Instrumentation and Process Control requirements for these processes are completely different.
But the techniques for control of batch processes had not developed to the same extent (as was the case for continuous processes) until the past two decades or so.
Many batch production plants used to be operated with rudimentary and semi automatic controls, with a lot of manual intervention until recently. When these plants were modernized, the same techniques of process control that worked so well in continuous process plants, were implemented in these batch plants. These were mostly control schemes such as those used to control individual process parameters such as flow, level, temperature, etc. Unfortunately, batch processes were completely different from continuous processes and consequently many of these implementations either failed or did not meet the expectations. Either way it meant lost investments and missed opportunities.
Many plants and process owners were not able to realize the full benefits of automation techniques due to such poor implementations. Unfortunately, this situation is still prevalent in many industries in India even today.
So we decided to do something about it. Hence the idea of having this seminar.
Advanced Batch Process Management-Why?
The use of advanced batch process control and management techniques like use of ISA S88 standards, advanced recipe management, properly implemented batch control systems and data integration with ERP systems will however unlock the value of assets in batch plants and make these plants much more optimal. In addition to being extremely flexible to meet today’s market requirements, they can also be highly efficient, be transparent to the owners and top managers and thus be much more profitable.
Who should participate and Why?
All professionals who are involved in the production, processing, operations and management of plants utilizing batch processes should participate. These include owners, factory managers, process control and instrumentation engineers, process engineers from industries such as paints, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, dairy, food and beverages, specialty chemicals, polymers, lubricants, oil additives, etc.
Engineering consultants who are involved in the design and detail engineering of batch process plants should also attend this seminar.
Automation system suppliers and their system integrators and contractors will find this seminar to be extremely useful.
This seminar would also be useful to those ERP and IT system vendors tasked with interfacing enterprise IT systems with batch process control systems in production plants.
In short, the seminar is a great opportunity for manufacturing companies who run batch production processes, engineering consultants engaged in design of batch plants, Automation and Control System suppliers to batch plants as well as their system integrators, IT companies who are engaged in ERP integration with manufacturing systems and independent automation and process engineering functions, to learn from industry best practices, share experiences and knowledge across a spectrum of industries and businesses.
Some of the topics that will be addressed in this seminar are:
- Automation Needs of Batch processes
- ISA S88 standard-how to use it to optimize batch operations
- System architecture for optimum control
- Use smart field devices to gain smart advantages
- Integration of ERP systems such as SAP & batch process automation systems
- Real Life case studies from different industries
and much more!
